Naomi, a patient of critical care physician Dr. Laurin Bellg, experienced two cardiac arrests during treatment for a heart attack. The medical team performed CPR and electrical shocks to stabilize her heart rhythm. Her coronary artery was blocked, and even after removal, her weakened heart required artificial ventilation. During her unconscious state, Naomi had an out-of-body experience where she observed herself from above in the emergency room, watching the medical team perform chest compressions and intubation. She saw her limp body with one arm hanging off the bed. She then experienced being in different locations - the operating room with a large overhead light, and later the ICU. When conscious, Naomi accurately described specific details to Dr. Bellg, including the team trying to place a backboard under her body for more effective compressions. She observed Dr. Bellg saying "Whoa, whoa, whoa, my stuff" while grabbing supplies to prevent them from falling when the sterile field shifted. Dr. Bellg confirmed these specific details, including the incident she had forgotten, amazed that Naomi had been aware during total unconsciousness. Naomi also reported seeing her deceased mother and angels during the experience. The verification of specific procedural details, especially the forgotten incident with the sterile field, provides strong evidence for veridical perception during clinical death.
