Dr. A. S. Wiltse from Skiddy, Kansas suffered from typhoid fever in 1889 and fell into a coma. Dr. S. H. Raynes could detect no pulse or heartbeat for four hours, declaring him clinically dead. Wiltse experienced separation of his spirit from body, describing himself as jellyfish-like in shape and color, his mind loosening from body like a soap bubble from a tube. He became a transparent figure walking through people, observing "with the interest of a doctor" all he experienced out-of-body. He saw his body on a sofa with two women kneeling and crying to his left - later identified as his wife and sister whom he didn't recognize during the NDE. After revival, Wiltse described his perceptions, which witnesses confirmed or didn't deny. He sent notarized witness statements to investigator Richard Hodgson. Myers included these written statements in his book, providing exceptional documentation for a 19th century case.
