A 42-year-old woman from Missouri underwent a lumbar-disk operation in September 1972, which she observed from the operating room ceiling during an out-of-body experience. She noted specific details: the green operating room, the operating table positioned at an angle rather than next to the instrument table, the roles of two doctors, and how they operated on her. She went into cardiac arrest after the back operation, causing the wound to be sutured quickly and not very neatly. After regaining consciousness, she recognized one surgeon she had never met before the operation. A student nurse confirmed the accuracy of her observations. Dr. Sabom verified through medical records that the two doctors she observed had indeed performed the operation, with no discrepancies between her NDE observations and the surgical procedures. Notably, the operation went differently than expected - the doctor she'd never met did most of the work rather than her primary doctor.
