Deborah experienced her NDE during surgery in a hospital in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The operation was proceeding smoothly until her heart rate and blood pressure began falling dangerously. The surgical team fought to restore her vital signs, using a defibrillator to restart her heart. During this crisis, she found herself floating at the operating theatre ceiling in a state of pure bliss. From this vantage point, she could clearly see the theatre, all the equipment, the medical staff, and her own body on the table below. She recognized her friend who was the anesthetist and attempted to communicate by tapping her on the shoulder, but her friend showed no acknowledgment of her presence. She then left the hospital, flying peacefully along a tunnel toward a blue light. From the light, she saw a hand descending and reaching toward her, which she understood would mean death if she took it. She began a dialogue with what she believed was God's voice. She expressed her reluctance to leave, saying "I don't want to go yet... My baby's a couple of months old and I was still feeding, I can't leave my children, I want to see them grow old... I want to be a grandmother." In response, she heard "ok, you can go back," and she made promises to God, saying "I'll go and do your work for you." She then returned to her body and awoke from the anesthetic. Post-NDE, she embraced a life of service, teaching Kundalini yoga, working in India feeding 500 people daily with her spiritual master.
