Paul Ojeda experienced a distressing near-death experience after overdosing on cocaine, which became a pivotal moment leading to his complete life transformation. At age 30, after years of living distant from God, Ojeda's cocaine overdose brought him to the brink of death and into what he perceived as a hellish realm. His experience stands in stark contrast to the blissful NDEs often reported, providing important evidence that not all NDEs lead to pleasant destinations.
During his overdose, Ojeda recalls seeing no light, only a black tunnel into which he was falling deeper and deeper. The darkness was absolute and terrifying, and he had an overwhelming sense that he was descending into hell. The experience was characterized by hopelessness, isolation, and the terrible realization that he was heading to a place of eternal separation from God. Despite considering himself "a good person," he found himself descending into this dark realm. In his desperation, recognizing the hopelessness of his situation, Ojeda cried out: "Please Lord, I don't want to go to this place. Please save me!" Though he saw no face or figure after his plea, he had an unmistakable sense of God's presence beside him. God asked him a profound question: "What have you done with the life I've given you?" In response, God replayed Ojeda's entire life before him, showing him that he had done nothing meaningful with his 30 years of existence. After waking up in the hospital following his resuscitation, Ojeda made a vow to "find the God that pulled me out of hell." This experience led to a complete transformation of his life. He abandoned his former lifestyle and now leads Austin Powerhouse Church, serving the Hispanic community in Austin, Texas. His distressing NDE became the catalyst for dedicating his life to ministry and helping others.
