Jack Bybee was hospitalized in South Africa with severe pneumonia that threatened his life. During his critical medical crisis, he experienced a profound near-death experience that included encountering a deceased person he had not known had died. Among the nurses who had been attending to him was a 21-year-old nurse named Anita, who had recently died in a car accident involving a red MGB sports car that had been gifted to her by her parents.
During his NDE, Bybee claims to have met Anita in the spiritual realm. She communicated specific messages to him, telling him that he "must return" to his physical body. More remarkably, she gave him a message to deliver to her parents, saying she was sorry she had wrecked the red MGB and that she loved them. This encounter occurred while Bybee was in a critical state with severe pneumonia. When Bybee recovered and shared his NDE experience with another nurse, describing his encounter with Anita and her specific message about the red MGB, the nurse burst into tears and ran out of the room. Unknown to Bybee at the time of his experience, Anita had indeed recently been gifted a red MGB sports car by her parents. On her inaugural drive with this new car, she had crashed into a concrete pole and died. The veridical nature of this experience is particularly striking because Bybee had no way of knowing about Anita's death, the specific type and color of car involved, or the circumstances of the accident. This case provides compelling evidence of accurate perception of information that could not have been obtained through normal sensory means.
