A woman was brought to the intensive care ward at Harbour View hospital suffering a massive heart attack. During resuscitation efforts by the medical team, her heart stopped for several minutes, rendering her clinically dead. The experience began with the patient finding herself at ceiling level, able to accurately observe her own resuscitation from a specific corner of the room. She could see the medical team working on her body below.
During the out-of-body experience, she felt herself rise three stories above the ground level. From this elevated position outside the hospital, she observed a tennis shoe sitting on a window ledge. The shoe was dark blue and worn, with a distinctive scuff mark by the little toe area. She noted that the lace was positioned going under the shoe heel. She felt agitated during the experience because she wanted someone to retrieve the shoe. The most remarkable veridical observation was the tennis shoe itself. When Kimberly Clark searched for the shoe based on the patient's description, it was found on the opposite side of the hospital on a different floor, in a room with a window facing west. The shoe matched the exact description provided: dark blue color, worn appearance, with a scuff mark that was only visible from picking up the shoe. The details described could not have been seen from the ground or from anywhere inside the hospital, and this was the patient's first visit to this hospital. Upon resuscitation, the woman was able to recount her experience in detail to Kimberly Clark. The verification of the shoe's existence and its precise characteristics provided strong evidence for the veridical nature of her out-of-body perceptions during clinical death.
