Geri's first husband was diagnosed with cancer at age 33 and given approximately six months to live, though he survived for three and a half years. He chose to die at home with Geri's support. On his final day, he demonstrated remarkable awareness of his approaching death, stating that he would die in two hours. This prediction initiated a series of extraordinary visions that Geri witnessed directly.
He first described seeing somebody standing at his bedside - a soldier holding a yellow flower. As time progressed, more of these soldiers appeared to him. Later in the morning, he asked Geri to turn off the light because it was so bright, but she informed him that the ceiling light was not on. The brightness he perceived was not from any physical source in the room. As his predicted time approached, he calmly announced "the soldiers are back," indicating the return of his earlier visitors. Then, with complete peace, he said "goodbye" and died very peacefully at the time he had foreseen. The appearance of these military figures with flowers, combined with the perception of supernatural light, provided him comfort in his final hours. Geri's previous near-death experience had prepared her to support her husband through his three-and-half-year illness and to understand the significance of his deathbed visions. Her husband found comfort in her sharing her NDE knowledge, and his own nearing-death awareness helped both him and Geri face his passing with peace rather than fear.
