Gregg Nome was drowning at age 24 when his inner tube capsized after going over rapids. As he struggled and then lost consciousness, he experienced a profound life review where he became a passive observer watching scenes from his entire life. The images began with vivid color scenes from his earliest childhood, including sitting in a baby's highchair throwing food on the floor with his mother telling him good boys don't do that. He saw himself at age 3-4 at a summer lake vacation, getting mad at his brother Mark and throwing his air bubble into the lake, requiring his father to row out and retrieve it while explaining it wasn't nice. The life review continued at high speed showing experiences he had learned from as he matured, including traumatic events. He was amazed at how many long-forgotten scenes appeared with complete clarity. All the scenes seemed to relate to learning experiences and formative moments. The images continued chronologically getting closer to the present until they suddenly ceased, leaving only darkness and a feeling of pause, as if something was about to happen. Throughout the experience, he objectively observed both the good and bad of his life for the first time ever.
