A 60-year-old man recovering from emergency bowel cancer surgery developed sepsis and multi-organ failure. After five days of recovery, while sitting in a chair to regain muscle tone, his oxygen saturation dropped to 70-86% and blood pressure fell to 85/50. He was immediately returned to bed deeply unconscious, unresponsive to verbal commands or painful stimuli, with eyes closed. During this crisis, he experienced leaving his body and floating upward in a bright pink room, observing the medical team from above at approximately two-story building height. He accurately saw the consultant shine a light in his eyes checking pupil response, observed the nurse cleaning his mouth with a long suction catheter followed by a pink sponge, and noticed the physiotherapist nervously poking her head around the curtains. While out of body, he encountered his deceased father, mother-in-law whom he had never met, and a figure with long black hair and piercing eyes, possibly Jesus. They communicated telepathically without words. The figure told his father "He's got to go back; he's not ready yet." Upon returning to his body after three hours unconscious, he experienced terrible pain. Remarkably, following the NDE he could open his previously contracted right hand from cerebral palsy - a condition he had since birth that the physiotherapist said should require surgery to correct. His hemiplegic gait also improved significantly.
