Zhao Jian Zi, a senior minister in the state of Jin, experienced a profound near-death episode around 500 B.C. when he lay unconscious for multiple days. His condition caused great concern among government colleagues. Bian Que, an eminent physician specializing in near-death cases, examined him and predicted based on similar cases that Zhao would recover and have something significant to report. After being unconscious for several days total, Zhao awakened exactly as Bian Que predicted.
During his NDE, Zhao reported traveling to meet the supreme being (Di), describing the experience as "very blissful." He traveled with hundreds of spirits through the turning heavens, hearing extraordinary music in nine renditions with myriad dances unlike any earthly music. He encountered bears that attacked him, which the supreme being instructed him to shoot - he successfully killed both bears. The supreme being, overjoyed, bestowed two caskets with aids and entrusted him with a Di dog. Notably, Zhao observed a child at the supreme being's side, an element with no parallel in ancient Chinese culture. The veridical elements included detailed prophecies about Jin's future. The supreme being announced that Jin's dynastic line would decline and end within seven generations, and that the Ying family would bring destruction to the Zhou people. Zhao also received personal prophecies about his children flourishing. These predictions were immediately documented by Dong An Yu in writing. Upon awakening, Zhao spoke to all high officials present, sharing his complete experience. The immediate documentation and multiple witnesses, including a medical professional who had predicted the NDE outcome, provide exceptional authentication for this ancient account.
