During cardiac arrest five years ago, this man experienced a comprehensive life review that transcended normal memory recall. He doesn't know how it began, but suddenly saw his life flashing before his eyes, essentially from age two to eighteen. Time seemed to have no meaning during this experience. He felt as though he was actually living whole scenes of his life over again, not merely remembering them. It was a genuine pleasure to relive happy moments, such as stealing cherries from trees as a child. The experience had a quality of reality that exceeded mere memory - he was feeling good and didn't want the moment to end. The review included fragments deeply buried that he had completely concealed from conscious memory, yet here they were presented with startling clarity. This panoramic life review left him with profound insights about his life journey and the nature of memory itself.
