An elderly woman who had been blind for many years suffered a cardiac arrest during her hospital stay. The resuscitation team worked frantically to revive her, with the doctor and nurses performing chest compressions and pumping air into her lungs. During this time, while she was unconscious and in cardiac arrest, she had an out-of-body experience. She floated out of her body and stood near the window, watching the resuscitation efforts without any pain. She observed the medical team at work and noticed when a pen fell out of her doctor's pocket and rolled near the window where her spirit was standing. The doctor walked over, picked up the pen, and put it back in his pocket before rejoining the resuscitation effort. They succeeded in reviving her. Days later, she told her doctor she had observed the resuscitation. When he suggested she was hallucinating due to lack of oxygen, she described the pen incident and other accurate details. The doctor was shocked because not only had she been comatose during the resuscitation, but she had been blind for many years. The cardiologist confirmed days later that everything she related had indeed taken place.
