A man was brought to the hospital in cardiac arrest and remained deeply comatose for days following resuscitation. During the emergency, a male nurse removed the patient's dentures to prepare him for intubation and placed them on a sliding shelf of a cart. The patient remained unconscious and on artificial respiration for over a week. Upon recovering consciousness, the patient immediately recognized the male nurse who had removed his dentures when he saw him for the first time since the event. The patient asked for his dentures back, correctly identifying their location on the sliding shelf. He also accurately described details of the resuscitation room, the procedures performed, and the appearance of other staff members present during his cardiac arrest. This occurred despite the patient being in deep coma during the entire period. The nurse and other staff confirmed all the details the patient reported. The fact that the denture removal occurred during the comatose period and was not mentioned to the patient supports that his perception occurred during the cardiac arrest.
