Mohamud, a Libyan bandit who had committed robbery and murder, was executed by hanging at sundown. Due to burial traditions prohibiting burials after sundown, his body was to be buried the next day. However, Dr. Fonzo discovered the man had not actually died and successfully resuscitated him. Mohamud reported a distressing near-death experience that differed markedly from positive NDEs. From above, he observed what he described as "a plough" - which Dr. Fonzo explained was actually an old closed well with a lever device between fortress walls that indeed resembled a plough when viewed from above. This veridical observation confirmed he had an out-of-body experience. However, instead of light and peace, Mohamud found himself in a state of utter loneliness and desertion at a nebulous and gloomy location without any light. This distressing experience reflected his moral state as a murderer and robber. The absence of tormenting demons differed from traditional Muslim hell expectations.
