A 63-year-old man experienced cardiac arrest while being operated on for a liver abscess in 1972. He was critically ill with no blood pressure and failing breath when he felt energy trying to leave his body. His head began revolving at an unimaginable speed and within a split second he traveled what felt like millions of miles away from the operating theatre into an unknown space. He journeyed to a space of brilliant light where he experienced being loved with a love he had never experienced before or since. The light was described as very bright, super white with a glow. He felt he was beyond time and space, spending what seemed like hours with this loving light though it occurred during the cardiac arrest. When he opened his eyes at 4:00 p.m., his first words were "Doctor, why did you bring me back? I was very happy where I was." It took time before he could see normally again. Following this experience, he developed what he felt was extrasensory perception and began having mystical experiences. He and his wife now sing devotional songs (bhajans) which he feels helps in his search for spiritual elevation. The profound love and light encountered during clinical death in surgery created lasting spiritual transformation.
