Alan, a 57-year-old Caucasian male with ADHD, experienced an NDE at age 51 during back surgery. The experience had profound transformative effects on his life and personality. Following the NDE, Alan reported gaining a new kind of positive energy that he had not possessed before. This energy manifested as an upbeat disposition that had a noticeable uplifting effect on others, including his psychiatrist. The NDE fundamentally changed Alan's approach to life and his interactions with others. He described the experience as bringing him a sense of being more balanced and together. Remarkably, after disclosing his NDE to his psychiatrist a year later, Alan experienced significant improvement in his ADHD symptoms. His focus and attention improved, his mind wandered less, and he became less impulsive in conversations. His partner noticed he was no longer a bulldozer in conversations and could step back and listen to others' perspectives. The NDE appeared to have lasting neurological and psychological benefits that enhanced his quality of life.
