A man in a remote village fell ill and died in winter, remaining dead for approximately three days while the grave was dug, coffin made, food prepared, and mourners gathered. He suddenly sat up while old women were discussing him. It seemed to him he had been dead many years. He came to a river that was too full and deep to cross. Many souls were gathered on the bank, and unearthly spirits periodically crossed the river easily, selected certain souls, and led them over. When the prophet asked why only some were selected and if he could cross, the people looked at his knees and told him not until they were hard from kneeling could he cross. After learning prayers and crossing, he encountered God who noted he could not speak effectively because he was unlearned. God ordered him to be taught to read. Upon awakening, he immediately demanded a book, though none existed in the village. When one was procured from the Mission, he opened it and began to read, despite never having learned. He could read the Gospels, common Epistles, and some Psalms with ease and fluency. He gained the ability to know many prayers, interpret spiritual matters, and perform healing miracles. This became his prophetic calling, using the experience to teach about prayer, repentance, and the necessity of spiritual preparation. His miraculous literacy was later investigated and found to be limited but genuine, possibly subliminal memory from hearing scriptures read aloud in villages.
