In 2001, Judith Mandalise underwent a dental procedure requiring nitrous oxide after experiencing severe tooth pain. Before the dentist placed the mask, she clearly heard a voice say "You are going to leave your body." She felt physical lightness, awareness of standing on the edge of a space, and conversed with familiar beings who offered her a choice. After they conveyed that her children would be okay without her, she began moving into and merging with the brightest yet softest white light. At the center was a warm orange light emanating pure unconditional love. She perceived her human form falling away and felt her remaining self merging with this incredible source of love and unconditional acceptance, knowing she was home with inexplicable joy. A living person she knew urged her to return, but she chose to remain. Then a smaller, glowing female stranger appeared asking "But what about me?" Finally, a living woman she knew appeared with a strong edict: "You must complete this lifetime." After discussion about the reasons (which she cannot recall), she returned. Upon regaining heaviness of body, she realized she could barely move her head and could not lift her arms. She heard someone say "Oh, you're awake" and realized she was nauseated. She vomited her lunch and was assisted by the dental assistant who held her head up so she did not choke.
