Ms. B, a 30-year-old woman, underwent oral surgery on her mandible, after which her mouth was wired shut for six weeks. When the oral surgeon began cutting the wires, she experienced excruciating pain described as the worst she had ever experienced, including labor. Despite being given nitrous oxide, the pain intensified until she realized she would either scream involuntarily or have to stop the procedure. At that critical moment, the entire room filled with golden light, the pain completely stopped, and she found herself out of her body in the left corner of the room, observing the medical team removing the wires.
The golden light was experienced not merely as illumination but as the presence of another entity or being with another form. Communication from this light presence came into her mind like her own thoughts, though she knew they were not her own but from another presence. She then traveled through a tunnel to a place containing several stations, described as learning centers or hospitals where people were receiving information. During this journey, she encountered several deceased individuals she had known in life. The primary message Ms. B received was about the purpose of her experience: she was to take less care of others and focus more on herself. She was told that Earth is working exactly as it should, even when it makes no sense to humans. She was given a clear choice to stay or return to her physical body and was shown how her decision would affect others. The communication was described as instant thought transfer, as if two minds became one with thoughts communicating in alternating order. Upon realizing she had much still to accomplish, Ms. B chose to return. She awakened feeling overwhelming disappointment at being back in the physical world, expressing chagrin at having to "walk on two legs to get someplace" again. The communications she received were the most important aspect of her experience, which she referred to as life lessons that fundamentally changed her perspective.
