A German man was struck head-on by a drunk driver in a van on May 26, 2024, while cycling. The collision caused cardiac arrest, moderate traumatic brain injury, multi-fragmented nasal fracture, and he was thrown 50-70 meters through the air. At the moment of impact, he experienced his life flashing before his eyes chronologically. When his heart stopped, everything went black, then his consciousness departed his body at what he perceived as faster-than-light speed into another dimension. There he experienced omniscience, knowing everything about the universe including its beginning and end. He felt complete unity with universal knowledge, absence of pain, and indescribable bliss. Time did not exist - everything was an eternal present. After landing in grass, his heart restarted and consciousness was pulled back into his body, where he endured up to 30 minutes of excruciating deep coma, completely paralyzed but able to hear the drunk drivers discussing whether to call an ambulance. They decided to flee, leaving him for dead. He eventually recovered enough to stand and seek help. The experience left him with PTSD but absolute certainty about consciousness surviving death.
