On August 8, 1959, an American graduate student in Paris was struck by a taxi while riding a Vespa to develop film. The accident resulted in severe head trauma, broken bones, hearing loss, and aphasia. She experienced multiple out-of-body episodes, first seeing "white clad angels" (hospital staff) from above her bed. During ambulance transfer, she left her body and circled the vehicle, examining the dashboard through the driver's window. In the second hospital, she again left her body and saw a tunnel leading to clarity/light. Knowing that entering meant death, she chose to investigate, laughing about not having to clean her parents' attic. In the tunnel, she swirled faster, accompanied by others partway through. Exiting onto a hill overlooking a distant village, she heard "Gerry's here! Gerry's here!" from 3-4 essences shaped like inverted drops of clear light. She experienced overwhelming joy, euphoria, total acceptance, and telepathic communication. Time and space ceased - she was simultaneously in medieval past, present, and future like superimposed film layers. She realized sin and guilt are man-made control concepts. When essences were about to take her further, another arrived saying "NO" and "Gerry must go back because they don't know." She returned through the tunnel with swooshing sound, re-entering through her crown chakra. Hospital records noted aphasia had "notoriously regressed" within a month. Recovery took five years, with her sense of self progressing through developmental stages from first grade to adult. She developed lasting reverence for creation and persistent homesickness for the other realm.
