A former pastor with 30 years of chronic back pain from crushed vertebrae underwent severe medication detoxification, reducing from 180mg oxycodone and 120mg methadone daily. During withdrawal in September 2010, with blood pressure reaching 250/115 and pulse at 30, he experienced complete systemic failure. His daughter, a registered nurse, witnessed him say "My chest hurts" before flatlining at 2:00 PM. Despite a DNR order, emergency resuscitation was performed when his daughter screamed "code." The experiencer entered complete velvet darkness - peaceful, warm, protected, and completely free of physical and emotional pain. He felt this was "exactly what I needed" and "the perfect heaven" - a place of rest from suffering. After successful resuscitation and induced coma, he experienced inner child healing, confronting childhood molestation trauma that had been suppressed for 47 years. Following the NDE, miraculous physical healing occurred: he went from using two walking sticks to playing golf within five weeks, regained lost sense of smell, blood pressure normalized without medication (from 225/115 to 120/70), and lost 50 pounds. The experience transformed his understanding to focus on love as the only thing that matters when crossing over, leading him to live by 1 Corinthians 13 and see each day as "like a child at Christmas."
