While driving from a dental appointment with their mother and dog, the experiencer attempted a left turn at an intersection. Misjudging the distance of oncoming traffic during a yellow light, they were struck by a delivery truck that hit the rear of their vehicle. The impact occurred in slow motion - the car spinning, the dog thrown forward, interior molding falling, mother thrown under dashboard. The experiencer saw their mother's face etched with fear, pleading for help, before everything went dark. In this darkness, there was no thought, feeling, or body - just a strange "knowing" without words. After what seemed like considerable time, they sensed traveling fast and far toward "them," knowing "they were waiting" and wanting to be with them. A dim light ahead grew brighter as they approached, trying to make out who "they" were, when suddenly hitting an invisible wall that stopped them. Everything went black again. A voice-like presence said "not yet," and instantly they were back in the still-spinning car. Using the parking brake, they finally stopped the vehicle. Stepping out, they marveled at minimal injuries - only a gash near the left eye with temporary vision reduction. The experience eliminated their fear of death and gave them certainty of an afterlife in that strange bodiless form. They kept the experience secret for over ten years, believing no one would understand, until reading about other NDEs.
