On February 14, 2017, a construction worker building a storage shed collapsed after walking up an incline while feeling unwell. He lay paralyzed for 1 hour 47 minutes, unable to move with his head turned left toward a tree. His senses heightened dramatically - he could hear individual insects and birds. A 13-year-old lab dog that had followed him all day ran between him and the owner's house barking for help. Sparrows gathered in the nearby tree chirping toward the house, then a large flock of blackbirds arrived making loud squawking. He observed 12 airplanes simultaneously and experienced a rainbow tunnel from his head.
He found himself sliding his hand across an airplane's metal surface in slow motion, then entered a white void - vast, calm, without shadows. A woman at a kitchen counter turned to him saying "David, I love you" - he recognized her as his Mamaw in her mid-twenties. All-encompassing love wrapped around him, eliminating all fear, anxiety, and pain. When the customer found him and called 911, he could hear everything but couldn't communicate - screaming internally "Just call my Dad!" The neighbor with a stethoscope thought he was dead. EMTs administered Narcan, and he couldn't speak properly in the ER, with 10-minute delays between words. His fever registered 107.9°F from a sinus infection. He was hospitalized 4 days with a 30 bpm pulse. Years later he married someone he believes Christ promised him during the experience.
