A three-year-old girl was swimming with family when everyone left the pool to play volleyball. Her floaties were removed but she still felt like they were on. She jumped into the pool and began sinking, unable to get her hand above water before blacking out. She reported being at the bottom of the pool looking up, then being carried out and seeing the rail as she passed. From an out-of-body perspective, she watched everyone huddled around her body. She saw her brother screaming at their mother to do CPR while she was sobbing saying she couldn't. She watched as she was carried to the house and then felt like she moved back into her body, crossing over a line. Her mother, an L&D nurse, performed CPR with chest compressions on her back until she vomited water and opened her eyes. The mother confirmed she was likely underwater for at least 5 minutes, pale and not breathing. The girl fought paramedics when being strapped down but was fine after an overnight hospital stay.
