The subject was in the ER lying on a bed with needles, IV, and pain medications when he told the nurse he thought he would vomit. She handed him a plastic container. As he sat up to take it, his eyes rolled back and he fell back on the bed. His heart stopped and he flatlined according to the nurse. He found himself in a place that was pure white where all pain was gone. He experienced the purest pleasure beyond description - a feeling beyond anything ever experienced. He then felt himself being pulled back to life, like the space shuttle returning into the pull of gravity. Though he thought he was screaming and fighting, he had done nothing outwardly. He awoke to two electrical shocks as surgeons revived him. The nurse said "Don't do that again, I have never seen anyone die." The next day, a heart catheterization showed he had "the heart of a twenty year old" which the doctor couldn't believe. A week later the doctor closed his file saying he wouldn't need to see him anymore. The subject jokes that God sent him back but grabbed a twenty-year-old heart by mistake. He now knows that death is a wonderful thing but hopes to stick around longer. The experience transformed his perspective on death from fear to understanding its peaceful nature.
