In 1976, the subject underwent major surgery to remove an acoustic neuroma that lasted 12 hours with two neurosurgeons alternating. She spent six hours in recovery and a day in ICU. Prior to surgery, she received anesthesia medication in her room at 5 a.m. As her mother and brother prayed over her with hands on her head, she experienced intense flashes of white light and "knew" she would be all right. She cried while being wheeled out, telling the nurse she would be fine either way. During surgery, she floated to the ceiling without form or body, unemotionally observing medical staff in green gowns working on the body she recognized as "Judy." She had no attachment to it and felt disconnected, existing perhaps as a mist or formless bubble. She noticed a beautiful soft, pale transparent aqua color that still attracts her. She felt calm, observant, and incredibly peaceful, then went through a dark stone-like tunnel at an upward angle, drawn magnetically to a brilliant golden white light. She experienced indescribable peace and bliss, beyond all understanding. Leaving the tunnel into the light, she entered a boundless white space without floors, ceilings, or walls. At one point she became the pure white light itself - nothing else existed except this infinite light. She knew purity and had total knowledge without ego, simply existing as pure awareness.
