During a 10-day coma, the patient's first memory was in the emergency room on a gurney with parents present as doctors delivered grave prognosis - unlikely survival and vegetative state if survived. Despite screaming at them that she was fine and right there, with crisp white sheets visible, no one acknowledged her presence, causing confusion about being ignored. The patient observed discussion about contacting college-aged children and debate over whether to contact the youngest child (nine-year-old Parker) with the ex-husband, with the father deciding against it due to travel and care difficulties. This upset the patient greatly - dying without seeing her nine-year-old. Suddenly floating above her body like an angel in flowing white hospital gown, she realized her soul had separated from her physical body while parents held her lifeless hand. Behind her was warm bright light bringing total peace and calm despite parental distress. Turning toward the light, she saw a foggy distant image through a very long tunnel, moving slowly while enjoying the journey. Her deceased grandfather from the 1970s appeared exactly as remembered - white hair, black glasses, pipe lit, starched white short-sleeved shirt with left pocket, black pants with belt, polished black shoes with neat laces. He was happy to see her, being his only granddaughter and baby of the grandchildren. When asked if she needed to come with him, he said "No," it wasn't her time, she needed to return to help her father who would need her. After goodbye, everything disappeared and she returned to her body. During the coma she heard everything including operations and nurses discussing dating, feeling left for dead in blackness, wondering if that's what death is like.
