A four-year-old Swedish boy drowned in a pool while trying to save a small insect at the pool's edge. His father, stepmother, and brother were elsewhere when he fell in and couldn't swim. He fought desperately for air, swallowing water and unable to scream, using all his physical energy until reaching the point of complete exhaustion with no air remaining - only panic.
At this critical moment, he heard a voice throughout and around him saying "GE UPP" (Swedish for "give up"), as if heard once but simultaneously repeated, commanding surrender in total trust. Everything suddenly became clear blue, and he saw a wonderful light positioned where the sun would be in the sky, capturing his complete attention. The light was simply wonderful, beyond any other description. In the next instant, he found himself in the light and as part of the light - being the light while seeing the light simultaneously. The transition was faster than thought, occurring instantly. In this state, he experienced complete unconditional love in its enormous infinity and totality, where everything was light. The experience was impossible to fully recount, as most NDErs describe. He suddenly departed from there without memory of the transition. Later, he overheard his mother on the phone saying to her father: "Dad, he died... Hahahah... but I saved him," apparently having gone crazy from the trauma. His brother confirmed two years prior to the account that their father, an old sailor, had performed CPR and brought him back to life. Upon revival, he only screamed and cried in his father's arms. The narrator describes this NDE as the most beautiful thing he ever experienced.
