A hospitalized man experienced respiratory arrest leading to a disturbing near-death experience that began with his spirit leaving his body. He descended into a dark valley with barely visible hills outlined against a twilight sky. An inner knowing compelled him to walk along a pathway on the valley floor toward an unknown but necessary destination. The environment was dark and foreboding, requiring intense focus to maintain his path despite powerful temptations to look at his surroundings.
When he gave in to the temptation to observe his peripheral vision, he discovered what initially appeared to be gnarled, barren trees resembling a neglected apple orchard. Upon closer inspection, these were revealed to be the lifeless bodies of people planted inverted in the ground, with their decaying arms and legs grotesquely entangled above the surface. Rather than succumbing to fear, he responded with fierce determination to continue forward, maintaining courage despite the horrific scenes on either side of the path. As the remaining light rapidly retreated into infinite darkness, he quickened his pace with increasing urgency, fearing the complete loss of light would leave him unable to find his way. The path led to an immense stone wall with a tall wooden door. In desperation, he searched for and found the door handle, but just as he began to turn it, a small glowing object appeared, circling his head with a warm, protective light that formed a sphere around his entire body. This luminous presence was the complete opposite of the surrounding darkness - familiar, comforting, and deeply connected to him in the otherwise barren landscape. While captivated by this warm light, he was suddenly returned to his hospital bed where alarms were sounding and a concerned nurse was leaning over him, repeatedly instructing him to breathe and explaining that he had scared them by stopping breathing.
