On July 17, 2019, a Canadian woman on vacation in Deadwood, South Dakota experienced cardiac arrest after developing severe chest pain throughout the day. Initially dismissing it as heartburn, her symptoms worsened with pain radiating to her back and right shoulder, labored breathing, and an overwhelming feeling of dread. She told her husband "I am going to die today." At the hospital emergency room, while looking at a blue wall and thinking it wasn't what she wanted to see before dying, the wall opened up to bright light. She told her husband and sons she felt she would pass out, then heard machinery bleeping and saw her husband shouting for help. During cardiac arrest, she found herself standing without a physical body, observing her two youngest sons playing on a merry-go-round. A tall, slender man with shoulder-length grey hair stood to her left with arms outstretched, though she never saw his face. Behind her sons was the brightest blue sky with cascading clouds and flawless sunlight. The ground was white and soft. She felt overwhelming painless, fearless calm and was glad to be there. She was sucked back at high speed like through a waterslide when she woke up. She had experienced sinus arrest, the most severe type with only 2% survival rate, caused by pericarditis from mild pneumonia. Tests later revealed a small heart aneurysm. After the NDE, she developed numerous conditions including memory loss, PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, but also gained artistic abilities she never had before. She became an extreme empath and now works in a funeral home where she has seen spirits released, particularly noting a First Nations woman whose spirit she saw leave after blessing rituals.
