The experiencer was driving when another car struck the driver's side of her truck with tremendous force. Not wearing a seatbelt, she held tightly to the steering wheel but was forced into the passenger seat and through the passenger window where she mysteriously stopped. She vividly remembers a large man holding her, preventing her ejection through the window. She repeatedly replays this memory because the man seemed to be her best friend's husband who had died in a car accident three years earlier.
Despite knowing she wasn't breathing, she felt remarkably calm. Through the crushed passenger door, an elderly lady dressed in white appeared and asked if she was okay. When she replied she thought she was, the woman said "You know God is with you." The experiencer acknowledged this, and then the lady vanished. Everything became a vivid, almost indescribable, otherworldly color of blue. Her heart stopped once on the way to the hospital, though she has no recollection of that specific moment. She believes her heart likely stopped at the moment of impact. When extracted from her truck after the door was cut open, she was in an ambulance asking about the woman who had spoken to her. The paramedics insisted there was no woman and no way anyone could have accessed her truck since they had to cut her out. The passenger side was crushed against a large concrete and cast iron sign. Later viewing the wreckage, she found no explanation for her survival. The accident resulted in traumatic brain injury from which she recovered. The experience remains as vivid twenty years later as if it happened yesterday. Throughout, she felt an unusual calm rather than her typical tendency to panic. She knows there's a reason she survived and has been searching for that purpose ever since.
