At age 40, pregnant with her third child and considered high-risk, the experiencer had a scheduled C-section on June 4, 1991. For weeks before the surgery, she felt an overwhelming sense of dread, unlike any previous surgeries. She even tutored her husband and son on caring for the baby, knowing she would not be able to. As anesthesia was administered, she remained conscious despite being unable to see, maintaining normal thought processes in darkness.
She heard a faint buzzing sound that gradually intensified to deafening levels. She found herself entering a dark tunnel feet first, lying on what felt like an ice-cold steel slab with her head slightly elevated. The acceleration through the tunnel was excruciating, with tremendous pressure forcing her back against the cold surface. The journey seemed to last hours with ever-increasing pain. She saw the dark tunnel walls rushing past as the buzzing became unbearably loud and painful. Telepathically pleading to live for her baby, she heard a commanding male voice declare "YOU HAVE NO SAY!" She then surrendered completely without further resistance. Eventually, a tiny pinpoint of light appeared in the distance, rapidly growing larger until she was gently "popped" into it despite her tremendous speed. The instant she entered the light, she experienced intense white light surrounding her - brilliant but not painful to view. She felt warm, comforted, and the most encompassing sense of total love and acceptance permeating every part of her being. Though she saw no one and heard no sound, she felt only warmth and unconditional love, wanting to remain in that state. She was suddenly shot back into her body, awakening with an airway in her mouth and intolerable pain throughout her body. She yelled at the nurse for bringing her back, who responded it was because she had a child to care for. The baby had been given to her husband uncleaned and placed in a warming chamber where she was forgotten and nearly overheated before being rescued.
