While stationed in the Navy in Wales, the experiencer was riding a bicycle and, unfamiliar with the opposite traffic pattern after only two weeks, pulled out in front of an oncoming car and went through the windshield. The impact was severe and life-threatening. Following the collision, they reported that their heart stopped at least once on the way to the hospital, though they have no recollection of this specific moment.
Suddenly, they found themselves walking down a long dark tunnel, conversing with someone they could not see. They looked for their arm but were unable to see it. Looking ahead, they saw Jesus, who appeared to be putting something in or taking something out of a closet. Jesus was the only visible figure, glowing with a golden essence. Everything was peaceful and loving. They then began experiencing various alternate realities or "earths" that seemed wrong or awkward. The people in these places behaved strangely, and each reality was different from the familiar Earth. God would repeatedly appear asking about waking up and returning to Earth. When they complained that Earth had become crazy, God informed them they were not on Earth. God explained that they were doing this to themselves by not waking up to become conscious. During the experience, they witnessed prophetic visions including seeing 9/11 before it happened, though they did not understand what they were seeing at the time. They also saw many personal life events that later came to pass. God told them they would know what they needed to know when the time was right. The experience felt like being Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, trying to find their way home through multiple realities. The result was traumatic brain injury from which they recovered, and the experience remains vivid twenty years later.
