While at college, the experiencer was attacked by her boyfriend who she had been trying to leave. He had previously threatened suicide whenever she attempted to end the relationship. Around 3 AM, she awoke to find him raping and strangling her with his hands around her neck. Despite fighting for her life, he was much stronger. When she looked at his face, she saw it contorted demonically and he was smiling. After a few minutes without oxygen, she gave up and thought "I am going to die now. Wow."
She slid out of her body and rose to the ceiling, saying to herself "I thought this one was supposed to be longer. Oh well, I am coming home." Hovering at the ceiling completely detached emotionally, she watched him continue the assault on her body without emotion. She felt wonderful with no pain or negative emotions - every cell in ecstasy. She gave no thought to pets, family, friends, or plans, only excitement about going home. She began rising in the light full of joy until suddenly being slammed back into her body, thinking "NO! Why was I sent back when he was only going to kill me again?" Suddenly, he removed his hands from her neck and looked surprised. He put his hands to his own neck, tearing at it as if trying to remove invisible fingers. His frantic hand motions increased as his face reddened and lips turned blue, unable to breathe. She recognized that a positive element, like an angel, had attacked him to save her. He fell unconscious on top of her. When she prepared to do CPR and opened his airway, he gasped and grabbed her arm with bulging eyes, repeatedly saying "I've been to the 'other place.'" He then passed out again. The attacker had previously shared his own NDE from 10 years earlier when he overdosed in the military, being dead for 20 minutes. He had seen wonderful light evaluating his life, but his bad deeds outnumbered the good. A shadow overtook the light, and despite the light saying "I will always love you," he was told he had to go with the dark entity. He had begged for another chance and returned to life, but admitted he never changed. The experience left the survivor with tremendous homesickness for the other side and complete confidence in divine protection, knowing God will protect her life until her appointed time.
