On August 31, 1973, at age eleven, the experiencer ran between parked cars after telling his six-year-old brother "Don't ever do this." A car traveling 30-40 mph struck him when he was about two feet away. Unable to escape forward or backward, he jumped up attempting to let the car pass under him. According to his brother, the car clipped him, spinning him violently upward about 20 feet before he came down headfirst. His right arm blocked his skull impact, causing an open fracture to the humerus. His right tibia and fibula were completely pulverized.
During the out-of-body experience, he found himself above the car and himself, spinning 30-40 feet from the ground. He witnessed the scene from this elevated perspective while his physical body lay in the road in enormous pain, fading in and out of consciousness. He observed many neighbors gathering, his mother appearing to say "You stupid bastard," and his father, an ex-ambulance man, kneeling beside him hand-rolling a cigarette. His father calmly said "Wake up" and pressed a nerve behind his left ear, a technique he later explained revives people in shock, coma, or extreme intoxication. The experiencer saw pure white light when his eyes closed and felt no pain in those moments, preferring that state to the agony in the road. The experience involved severe physical trauma with multiple catastrophic injuries. His lower teeth had penetrated through his lip, glass was embedded in his right shin, and blood covered his face. Witnesses reported never hearing such obscenities from an eleven-year-old as he screamed in pain. The out-of-body perspective specifically involved floating 10-15 yards above while watching his body spin yards above the car, a dual perspective of both the spinning body and the scene below. Since this experience, he has had extraordinary life events including multiple near-death escapes, encounters with famous people, and a persistent sense of living in a film-like reality. He experiences daily visions of that out-of-body moment floating above the accident scene. Despite diagnoses of manic-depression and suicidal thoughts over the years, he feels a great purpose on Earth and seeks to understand his unique perspective on life shaped by this childhood NDE.
