On February 18, 2006, the experiencer was in a near-fatal car accident, thrown from the vehicle and sustaining severe head, spinal, rib, lung, and arm injuries. She hit her temporal lobe on a large boulder and suffered a large facial scar from glass or impact. She was in and out of comas for approximately three weeks with fragmented memories. Right before the car went off the ravine, she prayed through tears that God would let everyone know she loved them and she would be taken with Him. Her friend on the phone heard this prayer followed by rumbling and silence.
She awoke in darkness after the 5:30 PM accident, experiencing supreme weakness and inability to move for the first time in her life. Feeling profound loneliness and helplessness, she cried for her mother before her brain began swelling and she lost consciousness. Emergency medical technicians found her with only an 18% chance of survival, and she required transfer after four hours when the first hospital couldn't stabilize her. During her comatose state, she experienced being both in and outside her body, able to hear and see family members who couldn't see her. She felt like an onlooker evaluating the situation with a bird's-eye view and ability to focus closely where needed. The experience felt completely real - so real that upon waking, she couldn't distinguish her visions from reality. Everything felt intertwined, and she didn't initially recall what had happened to her. Her mother noted that "the girl that woke is not the girl who lay there sleeping," and everyone observed she had fundamentally changed. She experienced precognitive dreams that would later manifest in reality, a phenomenon she'd had since childhood but which intensified after the accident. For months afterward and occasionally still, she experiences a bright light appearing over her right shoulder that only she can see, so bright it sometimes prevents sleep even in darkness. The déjà vu experiences transformed into clear precognitive dreams. Three years after the accident, she continued processing the enormous amount of information absorbed during the experience, feeling permanently altered and finding her previous worries reduced to insignificance.
