A 40-year-old man discovered a brain tumor the size of his fist in December 1997, occupying half his cranium. The tumor had pushed the left side of his brain to the right side, and doctors estimated he would die by June without surgery. After reading Dr. Raymond Moody's "Life After Life" in college and spending 20 years reading about NDEs, he approached his surgery in January 1998 with unique preparation. He postponed the operation until after Christmas to protect his 11-year-old daughter from associating the holiday with potential loss.
During his brain surgery under general anesthesia, he experienced an NDE without going through a tunnel or seeing a light. He found himself already in a beautiful field of flowers with paths leading to buildings. He was walking with one of his spirit guides whose name was otherworldly. They were heading to meet his "Masters" to make a decision about whether he would return to his body. The decision was specifically about raising his son who had not yet been born - who would arrive in November 1999. The guide and Masters wanted the decision to be entirely his without influence. There was no life review since his life was not over and would continue for "at least another 50%." After making his commitment to return and raise his unborn son, he walked back through the field with his guide. He awakened from surgery at 2am on a respirator in the ICU with a better understanding of the other side of the veil. The experience proved accurate as his son was indeed born in November 1999. Now 22 years later, his son is a junior in college. He returned with certainty about eternal growth and continuation of consciousness beyond death, viewing his NDE as proof of his pre-birth commitment to raise his son.
