A man experienced an NDE in 1996 while painting interior woodwork with highly toxic lacquer. After spraying for over two hours with an expired respirator filter while taking pain medication, he felt tired and lay down among interior doors. The combination of opioids and toxic fumes caused him to lose consciousness and view his body from above, curled on the floor about 25-30 feet below.
He entered a dark realm where he felt roots approaching as if embedded underground, completely surrounded by darkness so overwhelming he could not see himself. Terror consumed him as he sensed the darkness overwhelming him. He then found himself in a slightly different realm of total darkness where entities approached from all directions. They multiplied as they came closer, and he sensed they were beings in human form with thick, harsh grey skin. The terror was greater than he thought possible, and he felt absolute despair. His daughter was divinely informed of his need and rushed to help him. She found him unconscious and got assistance to revive him. He later had a second near-death experience when he fell into cold Alaskan waters without a life jacket and nearly drowned after 12-15 minutes in the water, unable to pull himself out. A voice told him to call for help despite his weak voice, and miraculously a woman named Deanna appeared and saved him. The experience in the void was so terrifying that it took over twenty years to process and speak about it. He interprets it as entering a realm known as the void while being vulnerable due to drugs and having taken Satan's name in vain. He credits God's intervention through his daughter for saving him from the void, and sees both experiences as proof of God's protection and mercy.
