At a friend's wedding, someone slipped a drug into the experiencer's drink causing them to pass out. The perpetrator offered to take them home but instead raped and beat them before leaving them on the roadside. A paramedic driving home discovered them and began CPR, indicating they were not breathing and possibly without pulse. The exact timing of when the near-death experience began remains uncertain - whether during the assault, on the roadside, or after reaching the hospital.
During the experience, they perceived themselves as having a body and found themselves wandering down dark hallways, feeling lost and frightened. They had no understanding of how they arrived there or where they were. The darkness and confusion created significant fear as they desperately wanted to find a way out. They continued walking down these dark hallways for an unknown duration, searching for an exit from this frightening place. Eventually, they saw light emanating from a doorway ahead and rushed toward it. Upon entering, they found a room with golden light streaming through a window and a bed against the opposite wall. They heard or sensed within their mind a voice telling them to lay down, that it wasn't time yet. Following this instruction, they laid down in the bed. When they next awakened, they were in a hospital bed with IVs and a catheter. They retained awareness of the sexual assault but initially didn't understand the strange "dream" until years later when someone explained it was a near-death experience. The experience taught them they had died but something greater knew they would continue living. While the dark hallway remains frightening in memory, the golden light provides comfort. They hope future death experiences will skip the darkness and go directly to the beautiful golden light. The combination of trauma and transcendent experience created a complex but ultimately meaningful event that affirmed both the reality of death and the continuation of consciousness.
