On October 22, 2007, a young woman was on a hunting trip in Idaho with family and friends. While riding ATVs on a mountain ridge with her stepmother's best friend Dory, their vehicle got stuck in reverse while trying to turn around on a trail that ended. The ATV went off a cliff, falling 100 feet before being stopped by a dead tree. The woman became trapped under the tree while Dory died on impact. She woke up screaming for help and passed in and out of consciousness for hours before being found by another hunter who climbed down to reach them.
During one period of unconsciousness, she experienced seeing a light followed by a voice saying "It's not your time." She immediately woke up after hearing the voice, just in time to hear an ATV on the path above and scream for help, leading to her rescue. When the hunter reached her, she discovered Dory had died, though she had been certain Dory was right by her head the entire time she was trapped, feeling her hair nearby. The most puzzling aspect was her absolute certainty that Dory had been positioned by her head throughout the ordeal, when in reality Dory's body was by her feet. She cannot reconcile this discrepancy between her clear memory of Dory's presence near her head and the actual location of the body. This suggests she may have been sensing Dory's spiritual presence rather than her physical location. Following the accident, she developed an unusual ability to sense when people have died. Whenever she sees someone on TV, in the news, or even just their picture, she immediately knows if they have passed away. This ability has proven accurate every time it has occurred. She describes it as an immediate knowing rather than a guess or feeling, and it happens consistently whenever she encounters images of deceased individuals.
