A college sophomore staying with a pregnant friend experienced carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty furnace repair. She ascended through the ceiling into fog-like clouds, thinking "No one had better be sad. This is wonderful. What a perfect time to come home." She entered a marble room with tall columns where a man in white clothing carrying a clipboard told her there had been a mistake and she needed to go back. Despite her arguments that the timing was perfect as she was single with no children or responsibilities, he showed her something in a vision that convinced her to return, though this content was taken from her memory. She regained consciousness while being dragged on an icy sidewalk, with the men carrying her expressing shock that she was alive. Her friend suffered no effects from the gas. The experience left her unafraid of death, knowing she cannot leave until the right time. She initially thought it was a dream but later understood it as real, describing it as "realer than real" and the most vivid experience of her life. The peace and weightlessness she experienced showed her that being in a body involves constant pain she had not previously recognized.
