A woman with undiagnosed Celiac disease experienced multiple life-threatening emergency surgeries throughout life. During one occasion, she was losing consciousness from blood loss in the ambulance with intermittent memory of being wheeled into ER and hearing voices. She then found herself floating near the ceiling just below the lights, looking down at a nurse who had been left alone with instructions to start IV blood transfusion. She saw the nurse clearly, frantically trying veins in neck and feet, unable to find one that wasn't collapsed. She heard either the nurse's voice or panicked thoughts saying she was losing her. The woman felt calm and tried to communicate to comfort the nurse in her distress. Simultaneously, she asked if she could have five more years because her grandmother and son were dependent on her. She was aware of being instantly returned to her body on the table but remained unconscious until awakening from anesthesia and surgery a day or so later. She felt undisturbed and calm regarding the experience with a sense of awe. When reflecting back, she realizes since that day she doesn't fear death for herself, only what her death would mean to her children. When her time comes, she will welcome the feeling of loving warmth and peace beyond imagination.
