In the mid-1950s, a 5-year-old girl having tonsils and adenoids removed became hysterical when separated from her mother for surgery. She was strapped to the operating table while screaming, saw the bright surgical light above, then had cloth placed over eyes and mask over nose/mouth. Given ether while struggling, she went unconscious in two seconds, believing she died. Almost immediately conscious again but floating up from the table past staff toward the surgical light. Relieved she wasn't dead, she rose past the light to OR ceiling, turned to look down seeing entire room, operating table with her body, and staff movements. Realizing it was her body but feeling disconnected as the real her floated above. She floated through ceiling, saw hospital roof, building shape, parking lots and trees, having never seen the building exterior before. At 30-40 feet above roof, a being in white robe with white light around him stopped her, floating behind her right shoulder. He said she couldn't go further this time, that he'd always been with her, explained doctors were helping not harming her. He told her things about her future life (not remembered specifically) but clearly said "no matter what happens, you will always be okay." They descended together through roof back to OR, floated above surgical light where he explained the procedures and she saw the tonsillectomy instrument. After agreeing to return, she went unconscious, waking later in hospital bed no longer afraid. Memory returned 35 years later watching tonsillectomy on TV, recognizing the exact procedure and instruments.
