During a hiking accident in 1999, the experiencer careered off a mountain and faced almost certain death or catastrophic injury over approximately 30 seconds. As the person lost control descending the mountain, an intense fight-or-flight response kept them upright initially. In the final 5-10 seconds, they experienced a profound altered state. They intellectually realized they had no control over survival, felt tremendous relief as the weight of life lifted, experienced their life flashing past with no regrets, and felt tremendous purity and joy. Most remarkably, they ceased existing as a separate entity and dissolved into the surrounding environment like in The Matrix, no longer distinguishable from the grass and rocks. They stopped struggling as their vessel no longer contained them, experiencing tremendous euphoria and peace before impact. The person survived and now tells loved ones not to fear their final moments. They also report a prior experience with the spirit of a WWII soldier in Germany who directed them to find a 1942 rifle bullet shell.
