At age 3, a young girl experienced a traumatic assault and suffocation that resulted in a brief death experience. The extreme trauma of being suffocated was followed by a release from excruciating pain when she briefly died. The experience had profound and lasting effects on her consciousness and spiritual development throughout her life.
During her brief death, she experienced what she describes as a mystical, otherworldly, and overwhelmingly wonderful encounter with pure Love. She felt that her consciousness existed beyond physical functions, confirming for her that awareness transcends the body. She received guidance from a being that came down from higher realms, who spoke to her in the most beautiful voice she had ever heard. The experience was transformative despite its brevity. No specific veridical observations were reported from this childhood experience. The trauma was compounded by additional abuse afterward and another traumatic experience with amnesia 3-4 years later. Neither incident received proper medical attention or therapy at the time. The NDE left her with lasting enhanced abilities including high intuition and frequent out-of-body experiences. She struggles to put her mystical experiences into words, feeling that language cannot adequately convey their nature. Despite numerous mystical experiences since, she maintains a childlike sense of wonder and curiosity, which she attributes to having the NDE as a young child. The memory was repressed until age 26 and she continues working through childhood trauma at age 30.
