On July 4th, 1989, a young man was violently assaulted by his ex-girlfriend's stepfather who struck him in the head with a modified baseball bat, causing him to fall into a river. Friends pulled him from the water and called for help. He was semi-conscious when paramedics arrived and worked on him, during which he experienced being dead and observing the resuscitation efforts. He underwent a profound spiritual transformation that permanently altered his perception of reality.
During the initial resuscitation, he found himself watching and feeling the paramedics working on him after they cut off his clothes and used defibrillation paddles on his chest. A police officer later confirmed to him "You were dead. How did you know?" validating his observations. During transport to another hospital due to brain spotting and fluctuating vitals, he experienced an overwhelming abundance of love and peace, feeling completely accepting of either living or dying. Upon arrival, he was greeted by what he perceived as nurses with angelic qualities, beautiful in both appearance and the love they expressed. Remarkably, the brain spotting that required surgery spontaneously dissipated, which the neurosurgeon couldn't explain. The experience left him with permanent enhanced abilities including precognitive knowledge of events from subtle to significant (including deaths), intellectual knowledge he was never taught, deep empathy for all living creatures, acute awareness allowing him to sense people needing help even when not visible, lucid dreams with messages from deceased relatives, and intuitive medical knowledge that proved accurate. He describes no longer seeing the world through a mortal lens and feeling he exists in both realms simultaneously.
