On July 8-9, 2024, a man in his mid-30s fell asleep on his sofa around 11:30 PM-midnight. His home camera captured the incident that began around 12:50 AM and intensified until he woke himself at 1:00 AM. He experienced what he initially thought was a dream but later recognized as potentially more significant.
In the experience, he found himself in a home with a beautiful, peaceful woman who spoke in comforting tones. He remembered specific details including sheet colors and kitchen cabinets. After hours of conversation with her and another gentleman about life while enjoying drinks, the man went to bed and the woman followed, lying beside him before inviting the experiencer to join them. Despite the woman's soft insistence that it was "time for bed, time to rest," something warned him that lying down meant not getting back up. While getting a drink in the kitchen, he noticed a camera matching one in his house. This triggered a fight-or-flight response and he screamed "help." He felt pulled toward the ceiling, thrown upward with increasing force as he screamed louder, grabbing and throwing dishes while fighting for his life. He then snapped back to his body on the sofa with a tight jaw and sore chest, feeling suspended between the dream and reality. Video footage showed him stop breathing for approximately 5-6 minutes, with gasping and moaning starting around minute 5, and his scream of "HELP ME" audible at 6.5 minutes though his mouth never moved. His left eye opened slightly after the scream. No veridical observations of the physical environment occurred, as the experience was entirely in a dream-like realm. However, video documentation confirmed the breathing cessation and timing of events. The camera evidence provides objective corroboration of the medical crisis. He immediately drove to the ER where he was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. Blood work and EKGs were normal. He interpreted the kind woman as death itself - welcoming and warm, making that place feel like home. He saved the video footage and offered to share it, noting this was very different from a previous sleep paralysis experience in 2019 after spinal surgery.
