On January 11, 2013, the experiencer was snowmobiling in the mountains of St. Charles, Idaho in the Bear Lake area despite terrible snow conditions and extreme avalanche risk. After lunch, while riding as the lead into a bowl area searching for powder, he triggered an avalanche that carried him down the mountain and buried him under 2 feet of snow. He suffered two compound fractured femurs, compound fractured left arm, broken shin bone, bruised ribs, and minor soft tissue injuries. One of his three friends located him with a beacon and probe after approximately 7-8 minutes of burial.
While buried before rescue, his spirit left his body and he experienced complete weightlessness with no external pressure, gravity, cold, or heat - absolute perfect comfort. His clothes seemed lighter than air, as if they were light and positive energy rather than material. Standing 5-6 feet above his body in the air, he could see himself laying in the snow even though he was buried beneath it, knowing everything would be all right. He sensed his body needed him out temporarily to "fix some things" but would soon be ready for his return. Both his deceased grandfathers stood beside him in the air, one on each side, communicating soul-to-soul through feelings with perfect discernment though no words were spoken. He felt perfectly connected to all nature around him - the trees knew who he was with perfect mutual respect as God's creatures, and they looked down at his body cheering for him to be okay, emitting only good without any negative feelings. After this experience, one friend cleared his airways and he eventually started breathing on his own without CPR, as the friend felt compelled to wait silently for his return. The primary veridical element is his ability to see his own body while buried under 2 feet of snow, observing from approximately 5-6 feet above. He maintained awareness of his buried position despite the physical impossibility. The friend's confirmation of finding and reviving him after 7-8 minutes provides corroboration of the timeline and medical severity. Recovery required years and over a dozen surgeries. The experience left him feeling trapped back in his body, describing it as his spirit being squeezed into a wrong-shaped vessel. He views earthly life as temporary, something to "get through" to enjoy the freedom of spirit on the other side.
